Hey gang,

Looking for confirmation on my engine before I order the wrong part :)

its a 1975 ISH, Ford 233 (350CI) block in a 20 foot SunRay.

I have been trying to figure out of my engine has a prestolite or mercury.

I believe it too be a Prestolite

the rotor in the picture has a number on it: IBK 1016

no markings on the CAP What so ever.

I have attached the photo's that turn out when I was up where it was stored on the weekend.

basically, I think its a prestolite because of the circular disk and the distributer cap clips that are in the parts manuals.

its not much to go by, so its why I am here to confirm.

The links you provided are not working...

What part are you trying to replace? Tune-up parts or the whole distributor?

Iboats has tune-up parts and distributors for the 233/Ford 351 in stock..

Ok, so I fixed the links, seems they develeoped an extra space and that messed with the forums.

Ironically enough, your link seems to add 2 new kids of distribute kits into the mix.

basically, all I want to do is change the condensor, points, Cap and rotor with the right one.

I believe I have a prestolite, as Don S mentioned. but your links introduce something else.

if I look at the first link, the TUNEUP kit, there are 3 listing for my engine. all 3 with the same serial numbers

--- Mallory Ignition and Autolite Ignition, what are these? since I though my only 2 options where Mercruiser and prestolite.

If I look at the 2 kits in perticular :

18-5275 Autolite ignition, with CAP, The CAP looks wrong , as it has screws to hold it down, and the rotor is wrong as well since it has a metal TAB on top.

18-5277 Mallory ignition has what looks like the right CAP, and the right Rotor. but the condesor looks a little odd. I am more inclined to believe this is the right one. however, its "Mallory" and not Prestolite. which is what I thought it was initally.

And of course, just to make things even more confusing, they also list a : 9-29316 which is a tuneup kit, with CAP as well.

I am going to make a basic guess, that a 18-5277 and a 9-29316 is more or less the same thing, only that one of them is a Sierra?

Can anyone of the Guru's please beat me senseless and just put me out of my misery's ;)

Calm down!!!

Prestolite distributor caps came in 2 flavors; With screws or with hold down clips. Your distributors style uses hold down clips.
If you do your home work at the Mercruiser parts site, you will see that the mercruiser part numbers for the cap (392-6318T), points (392-6325), condenser (392-898253002), etc... are all supported in Sierra tune up kit # 18-5277.

I wouldn't sweat the "notes" part as it could just very well be that either Autolite or Mallory made the parts for Sierra. All the original part numbers are supported in that Sierra kit, and thats the one I would order.

As far as the condenser looking diffrent... The new condenser could be shaped like Sponge Bob Square Pants, just as long as it has the same amount of capacitance as the original, shape/size/color/smell don't matter much.... ;)

Re: prestolite vs mercury distributer.

ok well I am not too too excited, just confused.

My thing is, I have TONS of luck, and its usually bad.

guys at the marine shop around here love me, because if I am not returning something I am buying something because it broke. and yes it does rub off, because the poor guy ordering the parts is usually looking it up before I order stuff. but there is always some kind of mistake.

a 1 thats missing, a 1 that looks like a 7, wrong parts shipped, parts sold to someone else ...

Oddly enough, my best friend and a friend of his call me Gilligan.
