Computer question - iboats opening in IE instead of default browser Firefox

This is something that started happening today. In my subscribed threads notification emails, when I click on the link for the thread, the thread opens on Explorer instead of Firefox, which I have set as my default browser. I double checked it and Firefox is definitely the default I have set.

Anyone else have this, or any suggestions?

Thanks.

It's in the configuration of your e-mail program. Outlook is kinda famous for changing things with an update.

For the most part, websites now a days could care less which browser you use to view them. There is something in your configuration on your computer that has been changed that opens the website in IE. You need to change the program association so that it opens in Firefox, normally you can do this be right clicking, choose open with and make sure it is set to always open with Firefox for .html or .asp files.

Thanks. I haven't updated my old Outlook Express for years, but that sounds like the reason it's doing that. I suppose something else could have changed a setting, I'll look into it. Thanks.

interesting, because I just changed mine http: and https: to IE and it opened my subscribed threads in my email with IE instead of firefox and then I changed it back and it worked fine...What windows are you running?

In vista 64, internet properties I clicked programs -> set programs -> associate file type with program and scrolled down to http: and https: and set to firefox...

I'm running Windows XP home version.

I guess the point is getting moot anyway because in a few days I'll be switching over to a new computer and everything will be whacked out for a while anyway until I get everything the way I want it.

Just don't get why it changed all of a sudden. So when I open Firefox, it tells me that it's not my default browser, so I tell it to be; but when I check the settings in IE, it also tells me that IE is not my default browser. So they're both telling me they are not my default browser.

HA! Fixed!

I just ran another spyware  scan and rebooted and now the links open with Firefox.

That was going to be my next suggestion. Just for curiosity, what was the trojan or root kit found?

Sorry, being in too much of a hurry as I usually seem to be, I didn't take note of that, I just told the program to fix it.

Your scan program should have a log that will tell you the last things it cleaned up for you.

The report for that says "No virus or unwanted program was found", but the problem went away when I todl it to fix the problem and it deleted all the files. It's Avira free version. Works right now, anyway.
