I have a 1983 75 hp johnson for parts, my 1985 70 evinrude just spun a bearing and monday I an purchasing a 1984 60 hp johnson. What makes the difference in horsepower in these engines? Will my 1985 harness work on the 1984 motor?

What makes the difference in horsepower in these engines?

Primarily carbs, cubes, pistons, porting and ignition timing. You will need to do some research on the various part numbers to verify matches and differences. Then come back with questions about specific part swaps. Try www.marineengine.com for info. Good luck!

The only difference is the carbs, cylinder head and depending on if small or big bore the exhaust porting.

Yep the 70 use part #0323681 and the 75 # 0323682, difference is in shape and cc's of combustion area.
