Was wondering what the difference is between 1984 0394810 carbs and 1989 early prod. 0431982 carbs. Trying to get the 89 to idle better.

Either set of carbs will work and should work just fine. If you're having idle problems make sure the rings aren't starting to stick and it has the right Champion plugs. Obviously the carbs need to be clean, it needs fresh fuel and the motor needs to be basically healthy.

Re: 70hp carbs?

Some of these 3 cyl engines were produced with adjustable idle jets. Some were not. My preference is always to try to locate carbs with adjustable idle jets for these engines-as they are not know to be smooth-idling engines. The 84 carbs appear to have an idle screw in them. The early 89 carbs do not-they have fixed idle jets. I would not recommend these fixed idle jet carbs- if you have idle issues. The late 89 (433698) carbs have the idle screws in them-preferable. The factory manuals are pretty specific about setting the adjustable idle screws on these engines-a rather lengthy and detailed process.
