Properly flushing a motor

Possibly stupid question.... I was reading the manual for my motor and it said every time I take the motor out into salt water I need to flush it with fresh water, which I do. I actually do it when I run in regular fresh water also just because it makes me feel better for some reason. But, the manual said I need to remove the propeller every time I do it. Is that really necessary? I have never done that with any of my boat motors and have never had a problem with the prop. I never use a "flushing setup". I always just stick it in a big plastic container I have and run it in neutral.

Any advice on what's really needed would be appreciated.

thanks

You should be fine. They want the prop off so some careless person doesn't lose a body part to it if running on muffs.
