Is 16 gauge the correct wire for ballast to coils and coils to points?

Can't recall the exact gage but IMHO 16-gage might be a little 'thin' for those, 14-gage would probably be better for a rewire. And going to a heavier wire can't hurt, in any case.

I replaced all engine wires and both ballast resistors and checked voltage to + coil and got 5.42 on coil 1 and 4.87 on coil 2.
Is this voltage within range?
