Hi, on the above mentioned motor the system check goes as planned (lights go on and then back off), but when the key is left in the run position or the motor is started the water temp light stays on with alarm. I've disconnected temp sensor and no change. I believe there may be a shorted wire to ground some where. Do I just need to trace just the tan wire? From looking at the wiring diagrams it appears the tan wire goes to the ecu and to the wiring harness head up the the gauge. Any help on finding the short or direction on where else to look would be appreciated.

Does the mtr go into SLOW when you take it out and run it above 3000 rpm ?? Are we talking about a tach or just a system check gauge??

After spending a couple looking for skinned wires that were grounding system and finding none, In my frustration I thumped the gauge and the light went out. After a few more test (thumps) I determined that the gauge was the problem. Now to rewrap what seems like a couple miles of wire. Thanks for your help. I've learned so much from reading the post on this sight.

OMC did have probs with those gauges back in those years doing the same thing yours is doing.
