Hi,

I read lots of information on the web regarding restoring a GRP Hull as I have a new boat and want to get her looking as good as I can.

I have attached a photo of the hull and although it is not easy to see, the hull is different colours of the blue. The only way to describe it is that it looks like wipe marks but even after using cutting paste (T-Cut) on one specific area I can not cut through it.

I am wondering is somebody used some sort of solvent that they should not have done on the hull at some point which has penetrated into the GRP?

Just need some suggestions really as I am lost. Can't really afford to pay a yacht repairers to do it and have all the stuff to clean etc... Any suggestions?

Thanks, Dan.

hi.....welcome to iboats !

that just looks like calcium deposits....it needs an acid wash.

use industrial toilet bowl celaner....not the stuff you buy at a local hardwars store...but an industrial one.......suit up and wash the boat with it....

if you gave a galvanised trailer....wrap the trailer in placstic first.

just for a back ground.....gellcoat, the blue stuff that you see, is a really fantastic product.......not much penetrates it, so staining is just a surface issue.

gellcoat can be re surfaced by sanding with 800 grit paper. and then all the way back up to 1500 grit.

but before you resurface....do the acid wash
