Flywheel pin ?

couple more ?s before i attemp to pull flywheel gents, what is the purpose of the pin in the flywheel what does it do, and do i remove pin before taking the flywhee off thanks guys

I don't know what you are working on, nor do i know much about o/b's.

Guess's....It might locate or be pushed on for the pull cord?... It for sure is balanced so don't remove it just for that reason alone.

If you did need to remove it i bet it would be a PITA... steel in alum!

my best guess from looking through some old clinton manuals is that it is a locator pin having something to do with the the recoil starter....I'm sure it stays on the flywheel in place...don't try and remove it...you might try a little backwords engineering and find out just exactly what its there to line up so you don't have to guess at it when you reinstall the flywheel.

thanks mrcrabs its ok i got the flywheel off with a puller as you said i got it all tore down nicely now i have to clean up parts and order new condensor points and carb kit i dont have a service manual still looking for one, again thanks for all your help, by the way this motor i am working on is a 1979 clinton 7.5hp 1979, the one i have that is running but keeps stopping is a 1978 im practicing on the 1979 the new parts will be for the 1978, but i do need service manual for it model K751. thanks again
