motor rating and setup

So i think the chance of me getting a 14' fiberglass skiff is probally mine. the previous owner my neibhor and hasn't touched the boat since of age and health. so i was planning on asking him to buy it from him or to get it from him. no motor just the skiff. i was wondering was size motor do you think it could take? also how fast would it go with the motor it's rated for. would be a good fishing/ just riding around boat for me and my friends.

Once you flip it over (it's laying upside down on the beach, right?), see if there is a USCG capacity plate. If not, find out the year and make, and post them. Fourteen-footers are all over the map in terms of HP capacity. Does the boat have remote steering or just tiller? Tiller boats usually have lower HP ratings.

tiller no steering wheel or any thing like that 3 benches from what i remember. i saw it about 4-5 years ago in the water and floating hasn't bin in the water since. bin sitting on the beach well above the high tide mark and up side down for that long. He had a 10 hp on it.. has a low motor mount about less then 6 inchs from the water.

put a 20-25 and you will be fine, although you can go down to 9.5. if it's aluminum, a 15 will be good.

how could i tell the rating for the boat if it doesn't have a capicity plate?
