clean tank,clean fresh gas with gas-shok, about 5 gals run through since i bought it. It is a intermittent problem. New gas line to motor,new filter under hood. Bulb does not stay "hard", what is the "anti siphon" thing you speak of? is a 2003 & yes it could have been setting a while. lots of no wake zones here so going at "slow speed minimum wake" it will just shut off. try to restart it runs very roughly, wait a minute (or less) & it starts up & goes as before.(everytime) Same speed slowing to idle it will shut off. SOMETIMES. Running on "plane" smooth & strong. slow down it quits EVERYTIME. Thermostat ok, waterpump "new" said the seller,strong pissing action out the bypass hose. damn thing runs/idles GREAT, until it doesn't..........I had a 1998 I never had this issue with, I know how good this little motor is.
