This past summer I noticed that my Yamaha was having a hard time starting. This past weekend it seemed to have gotten a lot worse. I called a friend of mine and he said it sounded like the Idle Jets or Low Speed Jets were varnished and needed to be cleaned. Is this something I could do or would an experienced Yamaha Mechanic/dealer need to fix this problem?

It may be the dirty carbs, and if you want to tackle the job, the very least you would need is a Yamaha Repair Manual(about $95)for your motor. Maybe check to be sure your prime start enrichening device(like an automatic choke)is working O.K., if not then that could cause the problem. Do you have a qualified Yamaha mechanic/dealership anywhere nearby? After you get this problem fixed, maybe install a fuel/water separator type canister filter on your transom to help prevent fuel related problems.(Walmart/Attwood $27)...Good preventive maintenance item!Good Luck!:)

Thanks Mr. Graham. In your opinion, is this something I could tackle....being that I am mechanically inclined?
