I recently acquired a mid, to late eighties 5 hp twin cylinder Suzuki outboard. In my attempts to get it running i checked the compression today. They numbers where 75 and 90. This seems awfully low to me. Would it even run with this low of compression?

I think you'd have to start it on Ether with that low of compression. :(

Know nothing about the engine. Sometimes engine problems can be solved by loosening stuck rings. DeCarb is a process described numerous times on this site which decarbonizes combustion chambers thus loosening stuck rings and allowing for restored performance.

I had a chain saw and a weed eater that I restored (after I had bought new) just to see if the process worked....and it did. Should have done it before.
