I have a 1986 mercruiser I/O and recently had troubles stalling. A mechanic looked at it and tried to tell me i needed a new carb. I bought a rebuild kit for $70 compared to $800 for a new carb, rebuilt the carb and she starts up great.
She idles fine when i have the throttle control at the lowest position but when i try to pull the throttle to the "neutral" position (where it is straight up and down) the engine dies every time. Without being able to do this I obviously can't put into forward or reverse! I'm figuring I must have screwed something up when re-installing the throttle linkage at the carb. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated because I cant seem to find where I've done wrong!
