Broken Drain Plug

Hey guys,
I was winterizing the smaller boat tonight and wouldn?t you know it the port side riser drain plug snapped off. Twist cap in hand all the threads still in the block. Great!

Any suggestions on how to get the rest of it out?

I finished the draining the engine. Hooked-up the shop vac and then back filled with antifreeze down the hoses. I temporarily covered that plug with some duck tape to ensure the antifreeze doesn?t leak out.

Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Re: Broken Drain Plug

Get an easy out. It threads in counter clock wise and when it grabs the threads they come out. If that doesn't work, drill it out and tap it then get a plug to fit that size hole.

Thanks Jim,
That's exactly what I was trying to recall. I appreciate the quick response! I couldn?t remember the verbiage. Problem solved!

Pete,
Per my signature, it?s 1997 Mercruiser, 5.7 L. Thanks anyway.

Re: Broken Drain Plug

Good. Glad you got it. It cost me $300 when a spark plug broke off and an easy out wouldn't work. To top that off I ended up buying a re manufactured engine anyway.
