Welcome Merc 18 to the fourm. You sure can put a charging system on your motor. You will need the charging coil, rectifier, battrey cables, 10 Amp fuse link, wire, and time to do it. You should be able to pick all the parts or a charging kit thru most suppliers, or boat shops that might have a older Merc laying around. Make sure you have the SR# and do a search for outboard parts supplyers. There are several that should be able to help you out. Best thing is to call there PH# and talk to a teck, as they will know evrything you will need.I have done several mods to mercs, and one other item I would get would be a service manual for the motor, if you plan on keeping it. Most manuals will have a wiring digram for the motor and is mighty handy down the road also.

Best boating and BE SAFE,

Yep, just install a stator(part #86704A10) and a rectifier(part#816770T) a fuse/circuit breaker and some 10 guage wire. The only bad thing is this is a 6 amp system and thats running the motor at WOT, at idle it wont charge but 1 or 2 amps back into battery so you may not see much benefit unless you have some long, long WOT runs to your next fishing hole.
