Hello i have a 1998 Johnson 225 hp and ive been getting frustrated about the warning horn staying on even when the engine is not on and it starts sounding when you have the key position on on and stays on when engine is turn on also. Ive been reading all the other posts and tried everything!! Disconnect the vro , touching the tan wire on the sensors on the block, it beeps when nu do touch the block. So i need help its a medium pitch beep that keeps on going. I have no oil tank i pre-mix in gas tank just to let you guys know!

Get to the horn and disconnect the tan wire coming from it. If it shuts up you have a bad horn. If not the tan wire is grounded some where in the system.

If you disconnected the VRO/OMS pump and oil tank sensor wires. Three sensors left, 2 overheat, and 1fuel restriction. Disconnect these sensors, if horn still sounds, the tach is bad, or shorted tan wires in harness and on engine.

Okay now where is the 1fuel restriction senor located and why would u disconnect the tan wire on the horn if the tan wire is the one that sends the signals so that the horn can sound? Don't get what u are saying?

OMC had some probs with those horns back in those days doing this. At least you'll know it's not the horn itself.

Seems like the new horn is ok. If this engine has a System Check tach, the tach is bad, sensors bad, wires shorted.

The tach has logic that sounds the horn. You need a manual with wiring diagram. This system is not complex

Look in sticky for wiring diagram.

Okay I disconnected the wire that ran to the tach and disconnected all the sensors on the motor but still don't know where that fuel restrictor sensor is at and alarm still sounds

Follow the fuel lines on the port side of the mtr. Somewhere around the vro you'll find a hose that comes off of the main fuel line going to a little black/brown thing the has a tan wire and a black wire coming out of it mounted to a bracket. That's the fuel restriction sensor. If the old horn shut up when the tan wire was disconnected from it, it wasn't the horn.

Re: Warning Horn stays on

Okay I was messing with the test light last night and with the key on the horn will say on then I connected the test light to the positive and tested the wire that connected to the oil tank which is tan and its the warning of low oil. So when I touched the wire with the test light the horn will no sound! So I said okay lift the test light connected to it then grounded the temp sensors to see if the horn will sound and it did! So I was wondering is there a bypass that I can connect to the warning sensor for the oil tank? which I took off because I'm pre-mixing. But I am thanking you guys for helping me!

What kind of tach is on the engine? I will get you a wiring diagram, but will take a few days.
The oiltank and fuelpump sensors need to be disconnected if you are running premix, no bypass, no jumper wires. Also need to know which horn you are using, by pn.

Harness that plugs into the tach has the warning sensor wires from engine.
Tan,, overheat
Tan/black marker,, oil tank
Tan/yellow marker,, VRO pump
Tan/orange marker,, fuel restriction
Tan/blue marker,, to horn, comes from logic in tach,
Purple comes from switch, provides 12 volts for horn.

Engine running, system senses a problem, horn will sound 10 seconds and and light the appropriate light on the tach.
Self test will sound horn 1/2 second and and all lights will light for 30 seconds.
OVERHEAT sensor is only sensor that will set S.L.O.W.
