evinrude thermostat ??????

I dont have thermostats in my evinrude (1986 225 hp) I have a plastic water divertor attached to a gasket.....what is this and what do i call it...I think its there to channel the water correctly since i dont have thermostats

Go to boats.net and look at the parts list. It will be unusual to not have thermostats. The parts lists will show you all.

Get the thermostats back in the mtr as the mtr will not idle worth a dang without them. That mtr has to run a certain temp to idle correctly.

That plastic piece is the t-stat and poppet valve as it will unscrew and has a vernatherm in it. Also the water valve must be hooked up to t-stat covers for them to work correctly. if any of this has been bypassed it will not cool.
