Hello, First post on the forum.

I recently picked up a 1977 15 foot Seaswirl trihull. I'm looking for a general beater boat for crabbing and fishing the bays of Northwest Oregon. The hull and trailer are pretty stout. No soft spots etc in the hull. New tires and wheels on the roller trailer. The issue is the Engine. I was told that it had run in the last 2 years and that it was as 40 Hp Johnson. It is a Johnson but turns out to be a model RXL 10 C...which makes it a 1962 28HP. I think this will be a little small for this heavy fiberglass boat. Assuming I can get it running. The data plate says max 80 hp. It seem like 50HP is a minimum.

Thoughts?

Agree that a 50 would be about minimum. A 3 cylinder 70 or 75 would be nicer :D

Try her out to really see what the performance is, if it is below your needs, but still runs well, you can sell this and re-power with more HP. Might be easier to sell if it's on the boat and you can show that it runs. I bet someone out there is in need of that older motor, lots of guys doing restorations around that year and class of boat/motor.

Window for selling is getting smaller as colder weather arrives.
