How do I change out an in-gear-protection-starter-switch for a 48 hp Evenrude?

Wiggling the shift lever in neutral will sometimes work to allow key to turn over engine. Sometimes it won't work at all yet other times the key will start the motor right away. I'm assuming this is the cause of a bad in-gear-protection-starter-switch. If this is so, where is it located and how is it changed?

Switch is in the control box and is mounted by two screws going thru slots. If the screws come loose it will cause the problem you are describing.

What type of control do you have? Side mount or concealed side mount?

Remove the control from the side of the boat, split it open and you'll find the neutral safety switch. Has yellow/red wires going to it.

Thanks. I appreciate your help. The wiring diagram shown on a message from Tashasdaddy also shows the yellow/red wire. Hopefully things are just loose and need tightening up.
