1975 Tropicana 18' TriHull 120 MercCruiser

Someone told me this little lever on the back side of the throttle control was the Choke (lifts up from back and tilts forward)... But I thought you choked it by pressing the key switch in!

So which is it ? ...

Thats a fast idle lever to help on start and warm up, it simply gives the engine a high idle, for cold start--Bob

Sounds like an outboard contol to me???????????

I/O controls usually have a neutral only button that you push or pull, which allows you to give full throttle to operate the accelerator pump.
Outboards don't use the neutral only and have an electric choke/primer and a fast idle arm..... Which is what you described.
Sounds like some back yard enginering has been done to your boat.
