so i have a 2011 etec 150 on my walkaround that i bought in may, it performed flawlessly all season and is now hiding in its own carport for the winter. Last trip out about a month ago i went through the entire engine fog process with out a issue, and flushed when i got home. Question is do i need to change the lower unit oil? dealer and everything i read says no maintainance for 3 years or 300 hrs.??? it has to my best estimate between 100-125 hrs on it. thanks !

If the warranty is for 3 yrs I'd crack the bottom plug on the lower unit and if no water let it go.

Are you aware the E-Tecs self winterize in about five minutes if you follow the owner's manual procedure?

It's not optional. It's a standard E-Tec feature and always has been.

Not necessary. My motors have < 100 hrs, and more than 3 years, and still original oil. My dealer said motor LU's are compromised by checking the gear oil. Make sure to use only the recommended gear oil for the long time between changes.

Make sure to remove prop annually, check for mono on prop shaft and regrease splines with good waterproof grease.

Wilde1j, I'm curious about your dealer's comment on compromising the LU by checking the oil. Did he explain how that could happen?

when your engine is 2011 with about 125 hours and the first maintainance has to be done after 3 years/300 hours it should be clear if you should change the oil or not.

Skidz, It's about not getting a good seal at the fill/drain plugs.
