Hi Guys, I have a 60 75hp v4 with 68 50hp lower. I have installed a new impeller, sealed it nicely, w/yamabond, resealed the bottom end, checked that the enginge shaft is engaged at head, everything looks good, but it does'nt seem to pump up to the block, I blow through the pickup, and its clear, when I idle it, i don't get any water out of the upper middle exhaust port. The block seems clear, the water pump has some wear, but its minimal. There is a device at the back of the motor plastic black housing, with a thermo in it, how do you check that device. Any Ideas?? Thanks Ken

There is no such thing as a 1968 50hp, so we don't know what you have. Do you mean 1958? That should work ok, even though it is very different.

But your motor has a thermostatically controlled recirculating cooling system. The short story is that it should discharge some water at all times, but the amount of discharge varies according to the thermostat position. You can test the thermostat (vernatherm) by putting it in hot water. But that probably is not the problem. 99.9% of the time, if they fail they fail in the open position.
