Hi Everyone,
I recently purchased a Mercury outboard. I was told it is a 9.9 as that is what the sticker says, but the motor is huge and takes 2 people to carry it compared to my other 9.9. It is a long shaft tiller, and the shaft itself is over twice the girth of my other 9.9. I was told it is a 1986 9.9, but from pictures, it looks very similar to a 25 HP model. The serial number off the motor is A146383. I am thinking this was a larger HP model that someone put new decals on so they could use it on HP restricted lakes. If anyone is able to decode that serial number, I really appreciate it! I have seen these decoding charts, but can't seem to pinpoint a year or model for this engine.
