I am unable to tighten the tension screw which controls the turning motion of the Honda 50HP. Because of this the motor will pull immediately to one side or the other as soon as you let go of the tiller creating a dangerous situation. Can the screw be replaced and how expensive of a repair is this?

Seems not a screw issue by itself, this screws tights an internal friction plate located inside swivel bracket to adjust proper steering. Probably was adjusted to much and ruined the inside's friction plate.

Will need to dismount complete swivel bracket to get into the friction plate, change, grease and mount again, cheap if doing by yourself, at a Honda shop/dealer who knows, part should be cheap. Get the parts manual for that model engine and check where precisely is the friction plate located to have an overall idea of the job. The steering adjust bolt is just to adjust the sliding load of the steering, but not to fix the steering. Excessive tightening of the bolt will result in swivel bracket damage.
