Merc 60 4 Stroke EFI Impeller repalcement/ lower unit removal problem

I cannot get the lower unit to drop on a Merc 60 4 stroke. Removed 5 bolts, shook it, pounded it, wedged it. Moved maybe 1/4 inch. Is there something with the shift linkage that needs to be done?

Help. I need to go fishing.

what model and year? I have a 2005 60 4S EFI that was on super tight. I had to pry it to get started. Then it just dropped. No shift linkage to mess with on mine.

Motor is a 2004. Any secrets to getting the lower unit to move? It wiggles, but will not drop. How does the shift linkage attach to the head? Thanks,

The shift rod is a splined shaft. Have you removed the bolt under the torque tab?
