How old is this engine S/N: 3381235

It is an inline six merc from the 70's I think. Based on the s/n that came off the bell housing of the enigne it is 3381235

Not that boat or engine. Its a spare that I already scrapped the hull.

I did not cut the HIN out, and it is long gone (may of this year)

Is there another way to find the year of engine specifically? It could be a second one anyways.

only thing i can add is my number starts with 414xxxxx. it's a '75 165hp. so with your 338xxxxx i'll guess 72ish + or -. at the very least, older than my '75.... ;)

So its safe to assume mercruiser does not have a decoder to tell? Like on a boat hull for example the year is in the number.
