Interchangability of jet drive lower ends

Wondering if a '02 merc 60/40 jet lower end can be put on a '07 90/65? The reason is the 90/65 has a long shaft lower end and have a short shaft on the 60/40. Really want a short shaft, but the price is so right on the 90/65. Thanks.
