lower unit

i have a 1982 alfa drive with a 485 merccruiser engine. just replaced the engine coupler after installing the lower unit the shifter will not go into reverse. i had the throtle in the forward position and the made sure that the lower unit was able to go into all 3 positions before mounting. any ideas on what could be the problem? thanks for the help

Ayuh,... My guess is, the lower slipped into neutral as you were assembling it...
Drop the lower unit, 'n try again...

Btw,... I use a bungee strap to hold tension on the propshaft...
