Tachometer question

I just bought a set of gauges off ebay and am wondering how to hook up the tachometer to my 1983 Mercury 50hp outboard. I believe it is a 12 pole but please correct me if I am wrong. The back of the Tach has a +, - and p tabs for wires and then has a little flathead screwdriver dial with 4,6,8 settings on it. I am not sure of the brand of this gauge but am wondering how I would make it work with my motor. Please let me know. Thank you!

Re: Tachometer question

Is that tach made for an automobile (4, 6. 8 cylinders)? Normally an outboard tach will have three connections and a selector switch. The three connections are +12VDC, Ground and Sender.

12Pole is normal setting for Merc.

Re: Tachometer question

OK, Try the 6 setting and see if it appears to be correct.
