1973 evinrude 18hp spark plugs?

Could anyone tell me what spark plugs they use in 73 evinrude 18hp motor? It has Champion J17lmin it right now. Runs ok, but I think these are the wrong plugs for it. NGK or Champion?

I just bought a 1973 johnson 20 hp and they guy was running champion J4C plugs in it. He said thats what he has always ran in it. Whether thats the right plug is another story...Havent gotten to run the motor yet

THanks. I just picked up a 73 Evinrude 18hp with e-start. I went through it and cleaned up, carb rebuild, added a tell tail water indicator, lower unit oil, waterpump. This could be one of my best running motors so far. Very happy with it. I might try the NGK B6S plugs as I have always had good luck with NGK.

Current recommended plug is J4C gapped at 0.030"
