I replaced fuel lines, fuel conectors, primer ball, and fuel pump. Good pressure all the way around. Good sparks from new plugs. Most of the time it'll run for 2-3min, but only on choke and with the throttle open 50-75%. As soon as I push the choke in or decrease power, it slowly cuts off, but will usually regain if I pull the choke back out... Gas smells good, and mixture is right. Today I couldnt even get it to turn over 1 time. I doubled checked, it is in neutral. Could it possibly be the carburator? maybe the float is dirty and stuck? would that explain my issues? I already priced out a carb repair kit for $26, but im not sure of the difficulty and if it would be worth the effort... Please help. Its my first boat and Ive only got to run it 2 freaking times.....

There are two circuits in a carb; one for high speed and one for low speed. Sounds like you have a plugged slow speed circuit. You need to rebuild the carb. First thing is to get a repair manual for your specific motor. You should be able to find an OMC factory service manual on e-bay. This will help you understand the entire motor and how it is put together as well as how to fix it. Study it and prepare. Get the carb kit. You need some carb cleaner to remove gunk and some compressed air to blow out passages. I like Gumout and MAF Sensor cleaner. Use good quality screwdrivers. If you need a new tool, buy it; you'll use it later. Work on a clean bench being careful and methodical. I don't recall if this carb uses a small aluminum plug over the idle jets but if so you may have to drill it and remove it. This process should be covered in the manual. Good luck and remember, if you mess this up you can always fix it or replace it. Don't give up. Evinrude makes a fine motor and when the carbs are clean they run forever.

Small problem!!! I replaced and cleaned all of the carb using the OMC kit. Everything went smooth until the end. I cant screw the slow speed needle back into place by hand. Its super tight. I should mention that it was tough to get out originally, but I was able to do so by hand. I dont know if its because of the new little red rubber grommet or something else! Should I be able to screw it in by hand or ? Once I get this figured out, how should I set the needle after it sets? 1.5 turns back out? I greatly appreciate any advice! Thank you

The red bushing is supposed to be tight to keep the needle from vibrating. Does the needle screw in and out easily with out the bushing? If you want to, you can use the old bushing. The new one should be hard to thread in to.
I rebuild my 15 Evinrude recently and just used the old one because it was so hard to install the needle. Now if you are having trouble when you try to screw it in and out without the red bushing then you may have a thread issue. Probably not, most likely just a tight bushing. The 1-1/2 turn rule is a great place to start. Remember it takes about 15 seconds for the engine to stabilize after each adjustment of the slow speed mixture screw. Don't get in too much of a hurry. Hope this helps and good luck.
