gauges not working

I have a Sea Ray 1998 185 with a 4.3 mercruise.

I had a short in some lights that were added aftermarket.

I removed the lights and wiring.

Now my gauges are not working.

the tach and the speedometer work but the amp., temp., etc; all go to the maximum point when I turn on the key.

Also, I have a fish locator hooked up and it works fine with the engine off but does not work with the engine on.

Even the lights on the switches are screwed up (some work and some don't)

Is it my sending unit or ?

Thanks

Thanks for the response.

All the gauges go to the max when I turn on the ignition would that be a ground problem. How would I check or fix it?

Thanks

Ayuh,... The gauges read by resistance to Ground, which is Why I said what I did yesterday...

It sounds like you've got a rat's nest of wiring, 'n the only way to sort it out, is wire by wire...

Got a serial number for the motor,..??
Maybe Don will have a manual for at least part of yer problem,...
'n, No, there ain't no diagrams for the hull's wirin'...
Although there are some generic diagrams pinned down in the electrical forum...

I'm going to move this over to the electrical forum. You don't have an engine or drive problem, you have an electrical problem that started when you installed some new lights, it didn't work, and you thought you hooked things back up right.
I have tracked down enough electrical problems to know that you have missed something, and I really don't know how to tell you to test things.

Wiring at the inst. panel is the same. Here it is.
