Just installed a 1989 long block reman . It's a Gm 350 5.7 Omc set up it has the petronix ignition set up. The motor has the flat tappet lifters. I set the timing at 10 btdc the total is 32 and I'm burning 93 octane gas . Do these numbers sound right ? The motor does run well . If I move the throttle too quickly there's a slight bog with the Rochester quadrajet

I thought the correct initial timing was 8 BTDC with 89 or higher octane fuel, and 2 BTDC with under 89. At least thats in my book.

Drem, LAC_STS is correct, it should be 8 btdc and you should not have to run premium gas.

Improper idle mixture will also cause a slight hesitation.

It really didn't want to idle at 8 I can try it again . Is 32 total bad?
