I need a new lower unit for my 02' Regal 1800, 4.3L alpha one outdrive. I know it's been asked before, but each anwser seems to be different. I found a few lower units off 4cyl's. Are they interchangeable? I read the ratio is in the upper, but I've also read of different ratios in the lower units as well??

All Alpha lowers should be the same. GEN II lowers will not work. Doubtful you have an Alpha on a such a new boat.
More likely a alpha GEN II model and lower unit ratios come into play.

What exactly is "busted"? Maybe we can fix it!

I don't think this one can be fixed. I hit a rock and broke the skag off. When it broke, it took a chunk of the casing with it as big as your fist !! Lost all the drive oil too.

You have an Alpha I Gen II outdrive. If you find a used lower, just be sure they know what ratio drive it came from. As long as it wasn't a 2.0 or 2.40 gear ratio the lowers are the same.

This chart shows the different tooth counts in the upper and lower gears.

Are these lower units you've found used? if so, why bother? A BRAND NEW (with 3 year warranty that includes striking objects) SEI lower unit is $845, right here at Iboats.

I live in Canada, so add shipping, and duty, and you're up over $1200 for a new one. It's probably the route I'll take, but i'd like to see if I can find a used one first.
