Hi folks, love the forum, just purchased a REAL MERC 140hp for my Bayliner. My question is that when I install it at what height should the prop be relative to the old motor. They are both regular shaft lenth.
Regardless of where the old engine was, the new engine cavitation plate should be pretty close to even with the bottom of the transom as per the diagram.
I see two errors there although one may be arguable. For best speed and fuel economy it is recommended that the "anti-ventilation" plate be about 1" ABOVE the bottom of the keel. The majority of boats will do well with this dimension although some may benefit even more by having it up a bit more. So there you have it; one definite error ( cavitation and ventilation are two very different things) and one arguable. But you'll love the extra power! Have fun.
T hanks everyone for the responses. I'll ask around and see if 1" or even with the keel is the best. The boat should work pretty well with the extra jam. It certainly will be nice to be able to ski with more people in the boat. Thanks
Andy
