Changing impeller. 200 merc EFI year 2001. All bolts out, 6, in neutral, will not come loose at front where shift rod goes into lower unit. What am I doing wrong?
Nothing- it's just stuck. Use a soft-faced hammer or rubber mallet and start tapping lightly. It will eventually come loose- there should be some sealant to the front of the water pump boss that seals off the exhaust and sometimes it's stubborn.
And a good quality penetrating oil like PB Blaster at your local auto parts store. Shoot it, let it soak, and repeat the process for several days till it gives up.
