I have a 1968 20 HP Johnson Long Shaft outboard motor I have been trying to sell on my local craigs list now for a couple weeks with out any hits. It's in great shape for its age, looks good and runs even better. I have it listed for $750.00 obo, but no one is biting. What do you all think is a good price to list this motor at? Thanks in advance for your help.

That all depends on where you're at and what the market will bare. Unfortunately, current economic conditions have hurt the outboard market. I think you'll prbably have to go down to about $300, before you start getting bites on it.

Where are you? That makes a lot of difference. It is worth at least twice as much in the upper Midwest as it is along the coast somewhere. Electric start is also worth a lot more than rope.

I am located in Oregon, so I am close to lots of rivers, lakes, and the ocean. Maybe I should try lowering it down to 500 or 600 obo?

In my area, that might fetch $450 with a tank and showing that it has had a new impeller, hoses, etc.

Ahhh in my neck of the woods. Yea, here, you'll be lucky to get $300 for it. Our economy sucks here for selling boats and motors. I tried selling a 4hp lightwin (rebuilt top end) with a boat and couldn't get any bites at $450. Here in Oregon, if you want boats, and RV's, there are deals to be had.

I seen a couple motors like that on craigslist today for $500+. I don't think they would sell for that much though. Good luck.

i see so many here in eastern canada, asking 3 times what a motor originally sold for, i get the biggest kick out of the ads! most say "it ran the last time i used it"!.........of course it ran the last time you used it......or you couldnt have used it! lol

Here's some insider trading information...At the shop, we see triple the response with a few pictures. We see more than double that with a video.

With a video, most customers simply schedule a pick-up, even when we aren't offering a warranty. Post on YouTube.

About a minute, or so, showing it starts easily, rev up a few times in forward, idle, shift, pumps water, shut off, easy start, rev up, idle, shut off = sold.

Yep, and if you offer delivery, that also helps too.
