I have a 1985 sea ray with just about every thing original. my steering was having problems, and of course some parts are hard to find, one of them is the original mercruiser quicksilver steering cable. I pulled it out and submerged it coiled on mineral spirits for 24 hours, then I used a clear hose and attached it to one of the ends and filled with mineral spirits and at the end of the hose attached an air compresor hose @ 150psi I pumped air on and off for a couple of hours until clear liquid came out of the other end. then I filled it with LPS 2 lubricant until dripping on the other side. Installed it back and used the proper grease on the fittings. It was as good as new. I hope this may help someone out there.
