Test a bilge pump

Hello...I have a Trophy 2002 and am having bilge pump problems.

I took out the pump (Johnson 1000 GPH - P/N: 28512), and have attached the two wires directly to a 12V battery - Brown to +, Black to -.

The pump doesn't budge....

Should the pump kick in when directly connected like this? If so can I presume it is time to replace.

If not how should it be wired to get it run?

Thanks!

If you do not have an internal float switch built into it, then your pump motor likely needs to be replaced. Place it in a bucket of water with enough water to fully submerge the pump and reconnect it to the battery. If nothing happens hit the Iboat store for a new one.
