OMC fuel tank on a Mercury?

I would like to use a steel OMC tank on a mercury as a spare.
The fuel line connection is not a problem as that can be changed.
I noticed that the fuel cap does not have a screw vent as all Mercurys seem to have.
Will this be a problem?
Thanks

Re: OMC fuel tank on a Mercury?

Hi,
It shouldn't be a problem--the OMC tanks I've had in the past have a 2-position cap. 1 is completely closed and then if you turn the cap 1/4 turn it will stay on loosely, creating the vent. If I could put in my 2 cents, get rid of the old steel tank and go w/ a new polyethylene tank. With all the problems arising from ethanol / water in the gas, why ask for trouble using a tank that can / will rust??
