I have used 8o foot pounds to loosen this nut to no avail. Any suggestions? Will heating the nut cause problems? Thanks, Art

Re: Frozen flywheel nut on 1983 mariner 50hp motor

I would avoid using heat on any outboard powerhead. I'm sure others have suggestions but if it rust or corrosion PB Blaster sprayed on is a good nut loosener. Other than that I'd go with a pneumatic (air powered) impact wrench that will kick around 120 ft. lbs. or more. I don't have a clue what torque spec's are for flywheel nuts but I've had as much difficulty getting them off as I have getting lug nuts off of vehicles.

Tow it to a an auto repair shop. I'm sure they'll air gun it off for you at no charge.

I solved my problem by using liquid wrench and letting it sit over night and then used 100 pounds of tourq. I did use heat on it the day before and melted the lock portion of the nut. Will get a new one. Thanks. Art
