I'm always on the lookout for motors and parts. Anyone know what years and hp LUs are compatible with my 1967 Johnson 80hp ?

Need to know if you have an electric shift or a manual shift gear case. If it is a manual shift, any 1960 t0 1968 60, threw 85 HP manual gear case will work. If it is electric then any 1960 75 to 90 HP electric shift gear case will work. I believe, if it is manual even the 1958 &59 50 HP heave duty gear case will bolt on. If it is electric, I believe you can use the 66-68 100 HP gear case if you use the intermediate adaptor a long with the gear case.

UPDATE:

I found an immaculately maintained 1968 65hp Evinrude Sportfour LU locally. Just to be safe....is this LU compatible with my 80hp?

It's a 68 Larson with a 70 horse running Johnson in Long Island.

Not looking for another boat/motor.

Although, if that was close to me I'd buy it and keep the motor and trash the boat.

Anyone definitively know if a '68 Evinrude Speedfour 65hp lower unit will fit my 1967 80hp Johnson? I'm going to buy the LU later today and I just need to be absolutely sure about the fit.

Update:

Now that I've sold my 80hp Johnson, I need to sell the extra lower unit I have. What is the lowest hp rating and year that is compatible with this lower unit.

I've got a buyer, but we're not sure if the LU will work. He has a '58 40hp Johnson.
