I replaced my rusting original OMC fuel tank for my 1968 40 horse Evinrude Big Twin with a new Attwood plastic tank and installed a new Attwood OMC connector to both the fuel tank and the fuel line. When I run connected to the Attwood tank, the engine stalls out and the primer bulb is empty. It does not matter if the fuel cap vent is open or closed, the engine still quits.
When I run with my old original tank, everything runs fine. How do I get the new tank to work with my old engine?

Did you put the bulb on backward?

Pull the fuel pickup tube out of the tank; you could have a restriction there from molding residue. If not there one of the connectors could be leaking air. I hate fuel connectors at the tank and always go to a brass nipple and a solid hookup at the tank; no chance of air leak that way. Good luck
