Went to refill my outdrive with gear lube, and it's supposed to take 39 oz (Alpha 1 Gen 1), but I can't get any more than 30 oz (+/-) before it comes back out. Drive was disassembled, and completely drained. Using the pump, and I just can't get any more in? Any ideas? Oh, and the drive is perfectly vertical (down position).

As long as your filling from the bottom SLOWLY so as not to introduce air bubbles you fine as long as it comes out the top hole.39 may be for a drive that was dis-assembled and all traces of oil removed from all the surfaces prior to assembly.

All mercruiser drives held 32 onces (1 quart) until the monitor came in to play.

If you tuck it under a little you will avoid the air in the bullet.

Just an update.

Went out this morning, and had no problem adding the missing 9 oz. Just did it slowly, and could hear the trapped air bubbling up. Good to go now.
