Fuel Tank- where to buy one that will fit??

I have an older mercury 35hp mower and I need a new gas tank for it. Currently, I have a yamaha 6 gallon tank.
I just purchased a mueller tank, and it will not work because the connection hook up is wrong. I looked at some marine
stores and they're charging over $100 dollars. I'm looking for a 6 or 6.6 gallon tank.

35hp Mercs date back to 1959;you'll have to date it a little better than "older".
Model number/serial number,description?Pictures?

I have attached a photo of the motor to my other post- about the starter. Hopefully that helps because I'm unsure of the model and serial number.
