Hi everybody! My name is Conrad and I am looking forward to being part of the iboats community!
I recently joined the boating world by helping a friend in need. I am just hoping I didnt get the smelly end of the stick . He was in need of a vehicle bad and so I traded my car for his old jet boat. I paid 3k for the car and I have already got the motor (454BBC) started after replacing two freeze plugs to find out it wasnt running worth a darn, which he informed me of, no visual cracks on the block. So it started and he was correct... ran like poo, found 5 flat lobes on cam and chewed up lifters. some worn down valve stems, water in the oil ETC. Took the heads off and cylinders are in okay shape, took the oil pan off and cant SEE any cracks in the block on the inside of the block. Not sure if the water in the oil is from the water cooled Bassets or a crack or a blown head gasket... the gaskets looked ok.
Cats made a nest in the boat last winter in which he failed to cover for the winter...
!! Break out the psi washer and odo ban!
It does need some work on the bottom too, looks like it was ran into something.. long scratch in the finish and a couple cracks along the scratch along the bottom... I will post some pics off the hull damage later.
I am trying to figure out what I have here boat/hull wise though. The title says that it is a 1978 MAKO, 19'.
All I can find via the HIN is that its from a company no longer around called Mako PleasureCraft INC. A HIN search showed a couple digits on the HIN are questionable so im concerned...
Any body know of them?
I cant find pics of this same boat on the www when I search so I am turning to you for help!
Any info will be great, thanks.
