hi i have a question?
im going to buy a seloc evinrude jhonson manual 1973 1989 1.25 to 60 hp. do u think that will give me good info on my 1985 evinrude 8 h ? if not do u know a better maual

I would go for the factory manual, they cost a little more, but well worth the money.

Sometimes you can find them on ebay, or google Ken Cook manuals, he has factory reprints. Either way, use your model number to get the correct manual.

Try searching with 8RCO. The last character has no meaning (a production run designator)"E" just calls out Evinrude, which is essentially the same as Johnson, except for color and trim.

will the owners manual tell me how to service the engine?

It won't tell you how to do simple shop procedures, like how to use a torque wrench, but it will tell you in detail what should do to replace a gasket, for example (i.e. whether or not to use any sealant, and whether the fasteners need to be torqued, and if so, the torque value and sequence). And the info will be specific to YOUR motor. Seloc assumes you may not know how to do some simple things, but doesn't provide a lot of motor specific info. Most here, including me, don't have any use for any third party books.

Oops, misread your post. The owners manual will just tell you how to use thew motor, not how to service it, other than where to apply grease, etc.

well what i want to do is take the engine and just play with it try some stuff. the past summer the motor has ran horrible so i just wanted to take some things off clean it out and maybe give it a little tune up
