Hey guys quick question for you. I just pulled the started on the volvo AQ170c straight six, the starter was missing the ignition terminal, probably broke off or something weird.

The starter itself is rusty but looks like it did work recently because of the markings on the gear. The motor gear which starter turns is rusty. Is this a normal place to see rust or should i be worried? I got a new starter that i can test the motor with, if it's ok i'll keep it. Can i lubricate this gear and starter? Marine grease?

Sorry but no pics, maybe later :)

Rust is a fact of life. :) If the starter needs rebuilding you can use a very small amount of white lithium grease on the bushings. The gear itself requires no lubrication, but a little WD40 wouldn't hurt.
