I blew the main starter fuse yeterday checking all my connections by shorting the wrench while tightening, found the fuse location, Thanks Don S.
I had replaced the solenoid as if I jumped the purple/red and yellow red wire on the solenoid it turns right over The problem still persists with the new solenoid, but will not turn over. Help I need to go fishing! .

Re: Mercruiser starter problem

This would be the slave solenoid, if jumping the larger of the wires makes the starter work the check the solenoid by verifying it has a good ground connection(black wire) and making sure the yel/red is gettting 12v with the key in the "start" position. You can also jump from the + battery to the small yel/reg wire. This will trip the slave and inturn trip the main starter solenoid to operate the starter.
